*Run Snowdonia Thursday Night Runs*
We’re carrying on organising
our Thursday night runs through the
2010-2011 winter, this will
be our 5th winter of carrying out these
runs. These are fell or low
level trail runs depending on the weekend’s
commitments or weather
conditions which last 1-2 hrs. We run them
through our company so we
are covered by our liability insurance. They
are free of charge. These
are not guided runs per se. We stick together
and ask those who are a bit
quick to loop back so we can keep track of
where everyone is on the
hill. Those who attend are expected to turn up
dressed suitably for the
conditions, with a suitable head torch and be
able to navigate themselves
should we separate, but this has never
happened. If visibility is
good then we do sometimes spread slightly but
always re-group at any
junction. Similar format and courtesy that you’d
expect with any club run.
It’s normally a small group of 4-10 runners.
We meet every Thursday,
normally 6:30 but the time varies slightly due
to day light ours. The
format is meet at a different location each week,
normally Aberglaslyn, Capel
Curig, Llanberis, Rhydd Ddu, Beddgelert,
Bethesda, Ogwen Cottage,
Nant Peris or Nant Mor.
They are for virtually all
abilities. The main thing is that you are
experienced and are
comfortable out in the hills at night. If you aren’t
sure then turn up and see
how you find it. As an example, we’d run up
Snowdon in 1hr 15 sort of
pace. Go along the Eilio Ridge in a few hours.
We try to train at the track
Thursday lunchtime so see it as an
enjoyable run in the hills
rather than hard effort session.
Dogs are welcome (well
behaved of course). We take our two along, so
tripping over dogs is a
possibility..
See Sarah’s blog for examples
of previous night runs.
